Temple of Olympian Zeus
Located in southern Athens, between the Acropolis and the Ilissos river, the Olympeion was the sanctuary of Olympian Zeus. Here stands one of the greatest ancient temples of Zeus. According to Vitruvius, one of the most famous marble buildings ever constructed.
Kerameikos
The archaeological site of the Kerameikos comprises part of the Themistoclean Wall, the Dipylon Gate and Sacred Gate, the Pompeion, the Demosion Sema, and other well-known monuments.
Pnyx
The function of the large, theatre-like area on the hill west of the Acropolis had, in the past, been explained by a number of different theories, before it was securely identified as the Pnyx, the place where the Assembly of the Athenians held its meetings.

Byzantine and Christian Museum
The Byzantine and Christian Museum houses more than 25,000 exhibits with rare collections of pictures, scriptures, frescoes, pottery, fabrics, manuscripts, and copies of artifacts from the 3rd century AD to the Late Middle Ages.
National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum
The National Gallery is an art museum located on Vasilissis Sofias avenue in the Pagrati district. It is devoted to Greek and European art from the 14th century to the 20th century.
National Museum of Contemporary Art Αthens
The National Museum of Contemporary Art, established in October 2000, is a national institution focused on collecting and exhibiting contemporary Greek and international art in Athens.
Neighbourhoods
Plaka
The old historical neighbourhood of Plaka is clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis. It incorporates labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. Plaka is built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens.
Monastiraki
The Monastiraki district is a flea market neighbourhood in the old town of Athens and is one of the main shopping districts in Athens. The area is home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops and specialty stores. It is a major tourist attraction in Athens and Attica for bargain shopping.
Thiseio
The area is famous for its many pedestrian streets, Acropolis views, archaeological sites, churches, synagogues, cafés, open terraces and cultural meeting points.
Psyri
The neighbourhood of Psyri or Psiri is a gentrified area in Athens, next to Monastiraki, today known for its restaurants, bars, live music tavernas, and small number of hotels.

Petralona
Petralona is a neighbourhood of the centre of Athens. Athenians further subdivide the area into Ano (upper) Petralona or Kato (Lower) Petralona. Ano Petralona is the area between the Philopappos Hill and the railway and Kato Petralona the area between the railway and Piraeus Street.
Pagrati
Pagrati or Pangrati is a neighbourhood in Athens. It has the name of the ancient sanctuary of Hercules Pancrates. Its frontage runs from Vasilissis Sofias Avenue along to Vasileos Konstantinou Avenue and Vassileos Alexandrou Avenue, just a few minutes walk from the National Gardens.
Parks
National Garden
The National Garden, called the Royal Garden until 1974, is a public park of in the centre of Athens. It is located between the districts of Kolonaki and Pangrati, directly behind the Greek Parliament building (The Old Palace).
Philopappou Hill
Philopappou or Filopappou is a small neighbourhood of Athens, Greece south of the Philopappos Monument, from which it takes its name.
Lycabettus Hill
Mount Lycabettus is a Cretaceous limestone hill in the Greek capital Athens. At 277 meters (908 feet) above sea level, its summit is the highest point in Central Athens and pine trees cover its base. The name also refers to the residential neighbourhood immediately below the east of the hill.
